An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the children "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the defendant went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The legal representative explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities again.
She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
