Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
